 GOOD COMMUNICATION

Do you know what communication is? Communication is simply the act of transffering information from one place, person or group to another. Humans as social creatures of course need communication to relate to other humans. Without communication, humans as social creatures will not be able to relate to each other. Being able to communicate effectively is one of the most important life skills to learn. There is communication that is verbal and some is non-verbal. Verbal communication is communication that occurs by talking to other people while non-verbal is communication that occurs through intermediaries or media. In verbal communication it is very important to be able to arrange the words that come out of our mouths into information that can be understood, useful and interesting to others. Clear communication will make other people pay attention and appreciate what we talk about.

Why good communication is important? Good communication skills are very important to build and strengthen relationships. Without communication and interaction, all human relationships are meaningless. Having strong communication skills aids in all aspects of life -from professional life to personal life and everything that falls in between. Good communication skills are essential to allow others and yourself to understand more accurately and quickly. If something is not communicated well, it will be difficult for people to understand. If left unchecked, problems will arise as a result.

What if there is no good communication? If communication does not go well it will cause misunderstanding, misinformation, trigger conflict, stretch social relationships and cause prolonged conflict. Misunderstandings arise when each individual has different understandings and perceptions and is unable to equalize each other's perceptions. Misunderstandings also lead to receiving misinformation. If misunderstandings persist and there is no justification, someone will continue to carry wrong information. This misinformation can lead to other problems that will lead to improper work results. The prolonged conflict due to stretched social relations is the last and most dangerous result that can arise just because of poor communication problems.

The cause of bad communication  caused by several things, as below:

1. Language barrier

Language is a unified message system that we use to communicate in general. Therefore, if we do not know the language system of the interlocutor, or vice versa, the interlocutor does not understand the language we use to communicate, then this will prevent us from communicating well. Language is one of the factors that influence communication quite a lot, especially if communication is done orally.

2. Perception

Perception of the speaker or listener can influence the results of the communication carried out. It could be that the results of communication are very different from what the speaker expects, because of the listeners' perceptions of the speaker.

3. Message not clear

Of course, messages that are not clear will interfere with communication. For example, if we write a letter, but our writing cannot be read properly, then the person we are sending the letter to will have difficulty reading it. In addition, the structure of the messages we write can also affect the level of success of listeners with the messages we make. Therefore unclear messages are often a communication breakdown.

Ways to fix bad communication can be done as below:

1. Speak effectively

Speaking effectively means not being wordy, not going around in circles to get a talking point. Fast, precise, straightforward and understandable to the other person. Speaking effectively makes the interlocutor we will focus on every thing we say and can affect directly into his mind.

2. Talk with motivation

The communication that is established and reaches the interlocutor must be encouraging. This is especially true when the person speaking is someone who has a higher position than the interlocutor, such as a boss to his subordinates. The motivation in question is the encouragement / encouragement in spoken words so that the interlocutor is moved to do something well and sincerely based on the direction that has been given.

3. Listen

To be a good communicator, it is important to be a good listener. It's important to practice active    listening - pay close attention to what other people say and clarify ambiguities by rearranging their questions for better understanding.

4. Body language

It is important to practice good body language, use eye contact, use hand gestures, and pay attention to tone of voice when communicating with others. A relaxed posture and friendly tone will help make you appear approachable to others. Eye contact is important in communication - make eye contact to show that you are focused on the conversation. But make sure not to stare at the person as this can make them uncomfortable.

5. Opend mind

In situations where you disagree with what the other person is saying, whether it's with an employer, coworker, or friend, it's important to sympathize with their point of view rather than just trying to get your message across. Respect other people's opinions and never belittle those who disagree with you.
